FAQ

Plitvice questions, answered straight

The short version of everything in the guides — what people actually ask before they go.

Tickets

How much does a Plitvice Lakes ticket cost?

On the park's 2026 price list an adult day ticket costs €40 from June to September (€25 after 4 p.m. from June to August and after 3 p.m. in September), €23 in April, May and October, and €10 from November to March. Children under 7 go free; our tickets and routes guide has the full table.

Do I need to book a time slot?

Yes. Tickets are sold for a date, an entrance and an hour, and the number for each hour and entrance is limited. You can't enter before your time and may be at most an hour late, and tickets are sold at the gate only if any are left.

Getting there

How do I get to Plitvice Lakes from Zagreb?

The lakes are about 130 km from Zagreb, roughly 2 hours by car. Coaches from Zagreb bus station take about 1 hour 50 minutes on FlixBus's estimate and stop at both entrances; our guide to getting there covers every option.

Can I visit Plitvice as a day trip from Split?

Yes, but it is a long day: the lakes are 242 km from Split. FlixBus estimates about 3 hours 30 minutes each way by coach, and guided tours from Split run about 12 hours.

Visiting

Which entrance should I use?

Entrance 1 (Rastovača) is right by the Great Waterfall and the Lower Lakes; Entrance 2 (Hladovina) starts with the boat across Kozjak into the Upper Lakes. In 2024, 61% of visitors started at Entrance 1, and the local tourist board calls Entrance 2 generally less crowded.

Is Plitvice open in winter?

Yes, 365 days a year. In winter the Lower Lakes are usually open and the Upper Lakes closed until early April, the hours are shorter, and an adult ticket costs €10; see our guide to the seasons.

Rules

Can you swim in Plitvice Lakes?

No. Swimming in the lakes is strictly prohibited all year. Dogs are allowed on a leash, including on the boats and panoramic vehicles, and drones are banned.

Booking

Tour or on my own?

On your own you buy the timed park ticket and handle the coach or the parking. A tour from Zagreb, Zadar or Split does that for you; check that the park ticket is included and how long you get at the lakes. The tours page compares them.
